Bio-pace alternative?
I have an old Cinelli steel frame with a Shimano 600 drive train. It has a biopace on the small chainring and it annoys the hell out of me. I want to put another chainring on it but I dont know what will work. Will a modern dura-ace or ultegra, ect., work with the 600 cranks?
You should be able to switch to a circular chainring (at the height of the Biopace craze tongue-in-cheek called "roundtech"). Measure the bolt spacing and check with your local bike shop ... or better bring in the bike. The number of teeth can probably be varied up or down from whatever the biopace chainring has. You may be able to use Ultegra or 105, but depending on bolt pattern may have to settle for whatever ring fits. Note that if the chain is worn you may need to switch the chain and possibly some of the cogs on the freewheel.
