How do you get a kink out of a bike rim?
So i got this kink thing in my 24" atomlab rim (back) and everytime the wheel does a rotation the back rim creates a vibration which shakes the bike up and down. Is there anyway this can be fixed ? its just really anoying when im riding and trying to shred up stuff. Thanks for the help James
Check that you tire is seated on the rim, sometimes when jumping, dh or other type of n-shore riding the tire will unseat off the rim a little and give you the up and down wobble / vibration. Also look at the rim as it rotates, is there a flat spot on the rim or is the rim going from side to side. To find a flat spot, take you tire of and slowly roll your rim across a table, the rim will stop rolling or will make a clunk sound when the flat spot is found. A side to side motion can be corrected, if you do not know how to true a wheel take it to a shop, a flat spot is bad news, I have seen some people pound them out, but this will end up as wheel failure and you will get to go to the ER. Also with your tire of the rim, put your wheel back on your frame and spin it, look at the hub for movement or your brake rotor (if you have discs), any wobble here means maybe a bent axle or hub. So for a flat spot, need a new rim, bent hub or axle, need new axle / hub, side to side wobble get the wheel trued, tire not seated on rim, let the air out, roll the wheel around on the ground while pushing down on the tire, when filling with air, give it a few pounds of air the check to make sure the tire is seated on the rim. You can also contact Atomlabs, maybe they will replace or give you a cost break on a new rim. Good luck and ride safe.
